Have you ever had a moment where the universe tests your peace of mind? It’s boiling hot, the children's school has closed and you’re going to have to reorganise your diary? (It can’t just be me this week!). Perhaps you’ve received a triggering email? Are you anxious about an upcoming event? Or an exchange with a colleague, friend or family member has left you unsettled and questioning your relationship?

A few years ago, these things could regularly send my stress levels skyrocketing. And I’m not claiming I now live in a state of perpetual Zen, but these days, I know the impact a dysregulated nervous system can have, so I take daily measures to pause and reset to ensure my serenity is managed effectively. If I don't do that, I can't possibly be the person so many people need me to be. And they are small, doable rituals, or reset moments throughout the day. A breath; a walk; a moment to shift my mindset before I step through the front door.

Last week, we put the focus on resetting the nervous system on our latest Rosie’s Reinvention Retreat. And I’m going to share some of the tools to reach a deep, grounded state pf calm with you.

The ballroom at Corinthia London was transformed into a serene and calming space for our session with somatic educator Nahid de Belgeonne. I'm still dreaming about it!

Many of our guests walked into the room feeling depleted, carrying the weight of everyday stress. But over the course of the day, alongside TV presenter Tess Daly and her business partner and best friend Gayle Lawton who I invited to showcase their confidence-boosting brand NAIA Beach at the retreat, the energy completely shifted.

We were led through a somatic movement journey with Nahid de Belgeonne - author of Soothe – and we were guided through some deep mind-set work with psychoterapist Abigail Iquo Isuo and Reiki Master Jade Adams. We left feeling full, grounded, and deeply supported.

Every single time, these retreats remind me why this work is so vital. If you want to feel the magic of our next space, you can explore more here and don't forget to subscribe so you'll here of new retreats first: 👉 Discover the Reinvention Retreats

But I want to bring a piece of that retreat magic directly to you today, let’s talk about what to do when you can't escape to a retreat – when overwhelm hits, your mind is racing, and you feel entirely consumed by your thoughts.

It was a joy to invite Tess Daly and Gayle Lawton to co-host this special retreat day with me. The atmosphere was really special.

Stress lives in our nervous system – not just our heads 🧠

When we get overwhelmed, our brain's emotional alarm system - the amygdala - takes over, flooding our bodies with cortisol. We start living entirely in our reactive thoughts. To change your mind-set, you have to get back into your physical body first.

Here is a simple, everyday "Micro-Pause" Toolkit you can use anywhere to reset your nervous system:

  • Step 1: Ground Your Skeletal System

Before you change your breathing, change your posture. Drop your shoulders consciously away from your ears and unclamp your jaw. If you are sitting, feel the weight of your skeletal system pressing into the chair; if standing, feel your feet anchoring into the earth. Your bones are your scaffolding. By centering your physical structure, you signal to your brain that you are safe, present and supported in this exact micro-moment.

  • Step 2: The 4-2-6 Breath Reset

Once your skeleton is grounded, let’s dial back the cortisol cycle. Inhale deeply through your nose for 4 seconds. Hold your breath at the top for 2 seconds. Exhale slowly and completely through your mouth for 6 seconds. Repeat this just twice. The extended exhale acts as a natural brake for your nervous system, bringing your heart rate down and restoring instant clarity.

  • Step 3: Name It to Tame It

Look at your thoughts with curiosity instead of judgment. Silently acknowledge the feeling: “Ah, there is overwhelm,” or “My inner critic is running the show right now.” Naming the emotion instantly shifts the activity in your brain from the panicked emotional center back to your rational prefrontal cortex.

By introducing these tiny micro-pauses into your day, you prevent a stressful moment from turning into prolonged psychological exhaustion. This is why the Pause is the first step in The PRO Method: Pause, Reflect, Organise.

Some of the guests we welcomed at our Nervous System Reset retreat day. It's amazing how much you can do in just one day only to focus on you.

This simple practice of pausing, reflecting, and organising your internal world is the exact framework behind of my brand-new book, The PRO Method: Three simple steps to reinvent your life (publishing 27th August 2026 with HQ/HarperCollins).

After navigating my own journey through psychological exhaustion during my career as Editor-in-Chief at HELLO! magazine, I developed this framework to help our community protect their mental well-being, shift unhelpful habits, and navigate life's transitions decisively and purposefully.

The book is officially available for pre-order now! Pre-orders are incredibly vital for authors, and it would mean the absolute world to me if you chose to back yourself and join our community of Reinventors by securing your copy today.

I can't wait to share the framework that transformed my life – The PRO Method – with as many of you as possible. I've made it as accessible as possible to appeal to all ages and life stages. It's a coaching course in a book.

Remember, your identity is not fixed, and your stress does not have to consume you. You have the power to rewrite your script, one intentional pause at a time.

There is lots more to come from the Reinvention Retreats and The PRO Method - keep watching this space!

Be kind to yourself this week, the hot weather demands even more purposeful pausing.
